Agent Motivation Takes Multiple Forms
Posted on Sep 12, 2011 by Sonya Lane, Vice President of Human Resources
TeleNet’s philosophy is to measure our teleprospecting agents on the effort they put forth, as well as the quality of their conversations and data collection (not paid per lead, which can create undesired behavior). Therefore, our management team is continually challenged to make our agents’ daily work experience both exciting and quality focused.
A few motivational activities that we use include:
- Team Building – providing each campaign team the opportunity to “post” their daily quality-checked results creates a healthy team competition that can generate added success for a project.
- Simple Recognition– Giving a surprise gift to someone for a special achievement pays off in the long run. Recognition can be simple, for instance management treating an agent to his/her favorite lunch after receiving outstanding feedback from a client.
- Incentive Prizes – On our high production programs (i.e. data capture), a team of agents may be motivated to surpass their goals by offering a reward –such as a prepaid gas card. Of course, the winning agent’s work must pass our quality assurance check first!
When developing motivational activities, be creative! Sometimes the simplest activities are the most successful in creating positive energy. As an example, one of our most appreciated team-building activities is our College Football team day. This special day is a chance for all of us at TeleNet to don our favorite team’s colors. It also gives us a chance to show our TeleNet team spirit. Although there’s never a requirement to participate in this celebration, nearly everyone joins in with happiness and pride. A number of prizes are passed out for best spirit, and also for special program achievements. During break and lunch, employees are able to participate in team games of Corn Hole and College Trivia. The energy created by these activities is tremendous! While there is always a focus to maintain production and quality during this time of “having fun”, our team embraces the opportunity to have some laughs and to also give a shout out to their favorite collegiate team. This stands as a reminder that motivating employees sometimes comes down to the basics of capturing true team spirit.
Please share with us ways in which you motivate your team, and keep momentum and energy high.
